ENJOY
KNOWING HOW!
Dear Friend:
For
all
these years
students have come to their teacher and asked, 'How does this go?" It's
constant
.
'Tell me how it goes.'
You sing or
play the example and have to teach it
BY ROTE in order to got
the student to
play/sing it
correctly.
WHY SHOULD YOU BUY THE All-State Sight ReadingSERIES?

First of all, it's cheap.
Just select
the books you will need. When they arrive, check them
out to any of your GO-GETTERS and let them have at it. It's a
programmed text
that teaches the
fundamentals of sight reading. NOW YOU CAN DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE SIGHT
READING ABILITIES OF YOUR STUDENTS. This will give you more
time to teach-plan-organize, REALLY TEACH MUSIC!
I have something very exciting to show you. The 6/8 section has 24
examples in
graded
levels to teach your students 'how it goes.' Then your singer/player
will
understand
6/8 without you having to explain it every time you read this time
signature.
Simple,
Complex, and
Compound time signatures really 'buffalo" most music students.
The parallel of 6/8=2 beats, 9/8=3 beats, and 12/8=4 beats really gets
to some
students. Then the
4/8 shows up. Here he comes again! 'Tell me how it goes." You sing
it-you
tap
it or clap it or snap it, you play it-it doesn't stick.
I'm talking read it and
weep. This
text makes it happen. Take mixed meters for example
what to do--what to do-. The eighth note almost always equals the
eighth
note-so--change the
beat note to quarter and dotted quarter. Whew! It works-Now just maybe
the
student will grasp
this idea. WAIT!-DON'T PRACTICE -IT! That spoils the whole idea. Just
sight
read it and
record it then count
your mistakes.
Use that
tape player to see how many mistakes you made.
WHO
REALLY
MAKES
ALL-STATE?

Most of the time it's the
student who
studies privately and is smart and has a great
instrument and super tone quality and practices 8 hours a day and works
his
buns off that
becomes a great musician. What really happens in those private lessons
anyway???
Well-I'm gonna
tell you. LOTS OF SIGHT
Are your students like the above description? No-neither are mine-
BUT-I send
TONS to ALL-STATE EVERY YEAR. They take my sight reading examples PLUS
some
private lessons PLUS some smarts and hard work. They tell me:
'THE SIGHT READING EXAMPLES REALLY HELPED ME TO MAKE IT!"
